Natural Gas Meter Before and After ...

After the August 4th Member (and Guest) meeting at the Bob Everest station, and excellent presentation by Captain Bickerdyke, I called NW Natural Gas to see about getting a "customer side" shutoff valve.

They dispatched a technician to our house on Friday, August 6th.

Here is a picture of our gas meter prior to the work done by the technician:



The technician said the meter is considered safe because it does NOT have a "flat back" on the opposite side of the shutoff valve.  That's the high pressure valve near the ground.  He said many meters in Lincoln City do have a flat back design and NW Natural replaces those meters with new ones.  Ideally, your meter should have a shutoff valve on the "customer side" of the meter but if it has the same design as mine, it is considered safe.

The technician cleaned and painted the meter.  He also replaced the corroded plug located on the outer end of the horizontal pipe leading into the house.
